This bright and zingy mango avocado salsa is perfect as an appetizer, as a taco salad topping, or in a bowl on top of your favorite protein. It checks all of the boxes: sweet, tangy, savory, and fresh. Better yet, it comes together in less than 10 minutes and uses only six ingredients.
How do I choose the right mangoes to use?
We recommend using fresh mangoes, though we have made this salsa before with thawed frozen mangoes, and it was still very tasty. When you’re selecting a mango at the grocery store, there are a few things to look for.
- Smell: The best mangoes are fragrant. Give them a good sniff!
- Touch: Ripe mangoes should yield slightly when you press them.
- Color: For this application, the color can range. It should be at least partially red or yellow, and can have some green on it, but it should not be completely green.
Other helpful tips and tidbits
- When buying avocados and mangos, make sure to get them at similar stages of ripening
- The lime juice is a natural preservative and it will help prevent the avocado and mango from browning once cut
- When cooking with jalapenos, always taste a tiny sliver of your pepper to see how spicy it is. Jalapenos and other hot peppers widely vary – sometimes they can be mild like a bell pepper, or extremely spicy with lots of heat.
This salsa can be enjoyed all on its own or used as a salad, taco, or burrito bowl topping. It pairs perfectly with our peanut tofu tacos. Let us know your favorite way to use this mango avocado salsa.
